Nicandra physalodes
Also called the Shoo Fly Plant as it does have fly repellant properties. Self seeds quite easily. Apple of Peru (shoofly plant ) is a perennial in South America but in our climate an annual. It can reach 5 feet in height by the end of the summer, and blooms for two to three months. It produces light purple to blue flowers that grow in a bell shape. Even though it blooms constantly, the flowers only last for about a day, and we grow this variety for foilage and texture in our arrangements. It is an indestructable unique filler!
